Black on Black Retouching
Here are some photos we retouched for automotive & lifestyle photographer, Ashton Rodgers. They came to us with all the normal post-production moves necessary. Cloning out and in different light sources and reflections, compositing multiple exposures, stitching panoramas, and aggressive color treatments. However, the real challenge was the dark nature of the images. The RAM 1500 that we highlighted has black paint with black trim and was shot late day to night. That’s a lot of black on black retouching. However, we still need the images to “pop” and to be able to identify clean body lines, trim pieces, and logos.
As you can imagine, getting through the first one was tough since we wanted to keep that dark look and feel as well as keeping it a little aggressive and contrasty. We used our artistic eye that we have honed through 10 plus years of experience and the resulting images highlight our professional, high-end product. Ashton was thrilled with the final portfolio-worthy images.
Are you planning some dark and moody shots but afraid the details will get lost in the blacks? Let's jump on a call and talk through the post process so you can get the look and feel you are after without sacrificing the quality you come to expect.
