Sometimes, automotive retouching isn’t about the automotive aspect. Sometimes, it’s about creating the scene the vehicle lives in. This was certainly the case with the New Land Cruiser. The car was shot beautifully by the Bax & Towner Duo, but due to budget and timing constraints, they were unable to secure the locations needed to really highlight the Land Cruiser’s offroading capabilities. This is where a retoucher’s ability to composite really comes into play. We scoured the hard drive of images and picked out the elements we needed to create towering cliffs and rocky outcrops for the vehicle to perch on. The final result, a mixture of automotive retouching and background compositing, created an authentic image of a high-end vehicle traversing the rugged beauty of nature.
